SUMMARY:Saturday Sadhana Class: White Tara
DESCRIPTION:Mantra meditation is one of the easiest and most accessible practices of Tibetan Buddhism. \nVisualizing oneself as a Buddha or bodhisattva while reciting a mantra and making aspirations for the benefit of beings is a powerful way to connect to our own inner goodness and send love\, compassion and wisdom to other beings. \n  \nIN-PERSON AND ON ZOOM \nThis 2 1/2 hour workshop will introduce the WhiteTara Practice as it’s recited at Columbus KTC on Sunday mornings. Tara is the awakened bodhisattva of compassion in action\, and is associated with the removal of obstacles and protection from illness and untimely death. \nInstructor Lama Kathy Wesley will explain the history and background of the prayer text\, show us how to read Tibetan transliteration\, and teach us elementary visualization techniques. The class will cover the main part of the White Tara prayer text by the 8th Tai Situ Rinpoche Tenpai Nyingje. \nParticipants will finish the workshop knowing how to read a Tibetan prayer text\, and be prepared to participate in the White Tara practice at KTC. \nPractitioners of all experience levels are welcome to attend. There are no special prerequisites for this class. Students will receive links to download a PDF of a White Tara chant practice and a PDF of a teaching outline for the class.  \n  \nABOUT TICKETS: Attendance is by donation. You can donate any amount you wish – even as little as $1. It is all appreciated!  \nIF YOU DO NOT HAVE financial means\, or have difficulty registering online\, please write lamakathy@columbusktc.org and she will register you at no cost.  \nStudents must have an internet connection\, email capability\, and download the Zoom application in order to attend. Zoom software is available here: https://zoom.us \nCan’t attend but want to help KTC’s Operations Fund?  \nHop over to our KTC donations page at this link: https://columbusktc.org/donate/ \n  \nThe White Tara text can be downloaded at this link: \nhttps://www.columbusktc.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/White-Tara-Situ-Rinpoche.pdf \nAnd the Tashi Prayer can be downloaded at this link: \nhttps://www.columbusktc.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/8-Auspicious-Tashi-prayer-1.pdf \nAn Outline of the Sadhana can be found here: \nhttps://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wpbrrwh23hyd44urzguli/White-Tara-Outline.Situ.doc?rlkey=bvh884ovzan74g86ms394om6y&st=wd8y9zc3&dl=0 \n  \nRegister here

SUMMARY:The Buddhist Path to Freedom with Khenpo Sangye Trinley
DESCRIPTION:TEACHINGS AVAILABLE IN-PERSON AND ON ZOOM\nTwenty-six hundred years ago\, the young prince Siddhartha Gautama snuck out of his palace and saw firsthand the truth of the suffering of old age\, sickness\, and death.  \nWhile most of us prefer to distract ourselves from such subjects\, the prince could not shake his awareness of these truths. Unable to ignore them\, he set out on a journey to find the source of humanity’s suffering and a method for ending it. \nHe sought answers for six years before taking a seat beneath the Bodhi tree\, where he found the resolution he was seeking. He spent the next forty-five years of his life teaching others that they too possessed the ability to free themselves from suffering. \nOn Monday evening\, Khenpo Sangye will provide an introduction to the Buddha’s teachings\, explaining how Buddhism differs from other religions and describing the different ways in which the Buddha taught to reach different types of students. \nThen on Tuesday evening\, we will look into one particular lineage of Buddhism – the one we practice here at KTC!  \nKhenpo Sangye will provide a teaching on the Dakpo Kagyu lineage prayer\, a profound text that lays out the origins of our lineage and concisely describes the means of attaining the ultimate realization. \nFinally\, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings\, Khenpo Sangye will teach about Buddha Nature as discussed in the first chapter of Gampopa’s Jewel Ornament of Liberation. This opening chapter of Gampopa’s great work clearly explains how we possess the same potential for awakening as the Buddha\, and how we too can attain enlightenment just like he did. \nPlease join us for any or all of the programs over the course of the week. We would love to share the blessings of these teachings with you! \n***** \nTHE FOUR-SESSION WORKSHOP IS WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON at the Columbus KTC Center\, 645 W. RIch Street\, Columbus\, OH. \nWANT TO PARTICIPATE BY ZOOM? Zoom tickets also are available to attend all workshops for a donation to KTC’s Operations Fund. All three workshop sessions will be Zoom-cast. \nIF YOU LACK FUNDS TO ATTEND\, please send a “message to the organizer” using the message button below and request a free ticket. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. \nLIMITED INCOME? A donation option is available. Write to the organizer at kmwesley@me.com to sign up. \n******** \nABOUT OUR TEACHER \nKhenpo Sangye Trinley has been serving as a resident teacher\, vajra master\, and translator at our home monastery Karma Triyana Dharmachakra since 2018. Originally from Nepal\, he received his novice monk vows at the age of 11 in 1980 and became a fully ordained Bhikshu in 1992. \nDuring this time\, he completed many years of Buddhist studies under great masters including H.H. the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa\, H.E. the 12th Chamgon Tai Situ Rinpoche\, and the previous Kyabje Dilyak Dazang Rinpoche. \nSince 1990\, he has extensively traveled throughout Southeast Asia\, North America\, and Europe at the invitations of Buddhist centers and organizations. \nIn 2001\, Khenpo Sangye completed the traditional three-year retreat at Palpung Sherabling retreat center under the guidance of Kyabje Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. After that time\, he served the lineage in a variety of posts in Asia and the United States before being sent to KTD in 2018 by His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa. \nKhenpo Sangye is well known for his joy in practicing and sharing the dharma and for his great sense of humor. \n  \nRegister here
