DESCRIPTION:Update Monday 11/24\nOur upcoming Sangha Friendsgiving is shaping up to be a really warm and joyful gathering. The two-step process (Eventbrite + SignUp.com) can feel a little awkward\, but we’ve streamlined it\, added a clear FAQ\, and made the dish categories more flexible so it’s easier to choose something that fits your time\, comfort level\, and cooking style. \nIf you’re planning to join\, please take a moment to sign up with your number of guests and the dish(es) you plan to bring. The overall balance of the meal greatly depends on everyone’s contributions\, and earlier sign-ups help us plan wisely. If you’re considering coming but you have questions\, you’re warmly invited to email assistant@columbusktc.org. \nSigning up sooner rather than later greatly helps the event team. This gathering is open to all members\, friends\, and families – bring your partner\, kids\, and/or a friend or two. Bring a dish and share in a joyful\, mindful\, and nourishing meal and community gathering. \nDoors open at 3:30 PM. Doors will be locked at 4:15 PM so all can fully participate. During final meal setup at 4:30 PM\, you’re invited to take a moment to write a short note of gratitude – these will be collected and your note may be read during the meal\, to help us share and celebrate our gratitude together. The potluck meal begins at 5:00 PM in the community room. \nThis is a communal meal of shared responsibility\, organized as a coordinated potluck to ensure that all vegetarian Thanksgiving favorites are represented in balanced proportions. When you register\, you’ll select a dish item – such as vegetarian protein main\, classic side\, salad\, or dessert – so that together we’ll create a complete and harmonious holiday meal. Based on our organizers’ years of experience planning complex potlucks\, we’ve found this system ensures variety\, balanced coverage of classics\, and a joyful\, more relaxed\, and abundant Friendsgiving meal for all. \nWe warmly request that each participant bring a dish if at all possible. Each contribution adds to the abundance\, strengthens our sense of community\, and supports the shared responsibility that makes our feast successful. This keeps the meal a true potluck rather than placing extra work on a few. Our event team has planned with great care so the meal can be enjoyed by all\, and we are grateful for your generosity in helping make this gathering memorable. \nIf you’re not confident in your cooking or prefer not to cook\, many restaurants and stores offer vegetarian\, alcohol-free entrées and sides. However\, if contributing a dish is genuinely not possible\, a $10 per-person donation may be made to help cover KTC’s non-food costs. This accommodation is intended for rare\, exceptional circumstances – for example\, we have someone driving across multiple states on the morning of the event. If you’re in a similar situation\, please contact assistant@columbusktc.org to make arrangements. \nAs always\, KTC is entirely vegetarian and alcohol-free. All contributions must exclude meat\, poultry\, fish\, shellfish\, and alcohol. When possible\, vegan or gluten-free dishes are appreciated. Please make a label for your dish indicating these\, and the presence or absence of common allergens (dairy\, eggs\, peanuts\, tree nuts\, wheat\, soy\, sesame). \nFor each adult in your group\, you contribute one dish. About 30 people will share the meal (possibly more)\, so please provide a generous portion (e.g.\, a full\, 9×13 pan). Ensure that your dish is fully prepared with serving utensils. Dishes served cold or room-temperature should arrive ready to serve. \nFor dishes that must be served warm\, we strongly request that you bring them already warm & in one or more crockpots or slow cookers (with cord). Extensive reheating could delay the meal by hours. If you don’t have a crockpot\, bring dishes already warm & in oven-proof containers\, and attach simple oven reheating instructions (at 350-375) to guide event volunteers. Many dishes need to be reheated and we have one oven\, so the kitchen will be reserved for event volunteers – this is one case where fewer hands are better! \nKTC will remain open only through dinner and dessert\, so cleanup on-site will not be possible. DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the work of a dedicated core of volunteers\, the KTC Children’s Class started with smiles and applause in October 2023.\n \n\n\nMeeting in the Children’s Room on the lower level of the KTC from 11:30 to 12:30 on the First and Third Sundays of the month\, youths ages 5-10 practice meditation together\, hear stories told by the Buddha about virtuous actions (called Jataka Tales)\, do yoga poses\, make crafts\, play games and light candles on the special Youth Shrine and pray for those in need.\n \n\n\nActivities are aimed at younger children\, but those up to age 12 are welcome to attend.\n\n\nPlease register your child ahead of time through our Eventbrite link here: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/ktc-childrens-program…\n \n\n\nQuestions or interested in volunteering? SUMMARY:The Manjushri Prayer and Sadhana for Wisdom Part 2 with Lama Kathy
DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON and ON ZOOM! \nWe all want and need wisdom in our lives. It is said that when the Buddha attained his spiritual awakening\, he realized what are called the Two Wisdoms – the Wisdom that Knows How Things Appear\, and the Wisdom that Knows How Things Really Are. \nBut how do we as beginning students of the Buddha approach these two wisdoms? How do we know what to study\, and how to study? \nUsing a teaching by KTC Founder Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche as a guide\, Lama Kathy Wesley will continue her instructions on a prayer and mantra practice of Manjushri Bodhisattva\, said to be the embodiment of the Buddha’s wisdom. \nThese prayers are said to produce good conditions (both inner and outer) for the study of dharma and the development of wisdom. \nThe first Manjushri workshop in November covered the text and chanting; this second session will cover visualizations and mantra recitation for the prayer and practice. \nMissed Part 1? DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the work of a dedicated core of volunteers\, the KTC Children’s Class started with smiles and applause in October 2023.\n \n\n\nMeeting in the Children’s Room on the lower level of the KTC from 11:30 to 12:30 on the First and Third Sundays of the month\, youths ages 5-10 practice meditation together\, hear stories told by the Buddha about virtuous actions (called Jataka Tales)\, do yoga poses\, make crafts\, play games and light candles on the special Youth Shrine and pray for those in need.\n \n\n\nActivities are aimed at younger children\, but those up to age 12 are welcome to attend.\n\n\nPlease register your child ahead of time through our Eventbrite link here: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/ktc-childrens-program…\n \n\n\nQuestions or interested in volunteering? SUMMARY:KTC Christmas Morning Chenrezig and Potluck Brunch
DESCRIPTION:It’s back! After a short hiatus and continuing a KTC tradition\, we will meet at 10 AM Christmas morning in-person and online for a Chenrezig chant led by Lama Kathy Wesley\, to bring light and goodness into our homes & hearts on a day that is sacred to our Christian brothers and sisters. \nChenrezig is the bodhisattva of compassion\, who made the radical vow to remain in Samsara (cyclic existence) until all beings have been liberated.  \nAfter the one-hour chant\, feel welcome to stay for a light potluck brunch and conversation in the community room. This portion of the event will be in-person only. \nIf you’re staying for the potluck\, please bring a vegetarian brunch-appropriate dish to share – no specific signup for this potluck\, here are some ideas – \n\nFruit\, veggie\, or cheese platter\nSalad (green salad\, pasta or grain salad\, etc.)\nEgg-based dish (quiche\, frittata\, etc.)\nBreads & spreads\nSweet treats or light dessert\nDonuts or pastries\n\nAs a reminder\, KTC is always vegetarian and alcohol-free. As potlucks return to KTC events (perhaps more regularly)\, please ensure dishes contain no meat\, poultry\, fish\, seafood\, or alcohol. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday January 1\, 2026\, please join the Columbus KTC Sangha and begin the New Year with a First Light Prayers for World Peace Ceremony at 7:30 AM. \nWe will meet in person in our beautiful shrine room\, and will webcast our annual prayers on Zoom . We hope you can join us as we offer lamps and pray for the light of awakening to pervade the world. \nFollowing the Lamp Offering prayer program\, in-person guests are  invited to join us for a simple breakfast in the Community Room\, followed by a short Dharma Talk given by Lama Kathy in the KTC Shrine Room\, which will be webcast on YouTube and Facebook.  \nProgram will conclude at 10.
