Calling the Guru From Afar Pt. 1

This week’s Dharma Talk is entitled Calling the Guru From Afar Pt. 1 by Cathy Lhamo Jackson.

In the late 19th century, a great Tibetan Buddhist master named Jamgon Kongtrul the Great wrote one of the most beautiful liturgies, touching on the joys and sorrows of the human condition and appealing for the blessing of his spiritual master to help him overcome his faults and difficulties. This type of prayer, “calling the lama from afar,” is a genre of Tibetan Buddhist literature that helps us see the importance of spiritual life and how to pursue it.
