This week’s talk, given by meditation instructor Eric Weinberg, is the first talk in a series examining the book, “Freedom Through Meditation” by His Holiness 17th Karmapa. Talk 1: Love and Compassion Are Critical to Our Lives.
The first step is to train in responding based on kindness and compassion rather than fixation, dislike and willful ignorance. Our kindness and compassion muscles are generally a little underused and flabby – maybe even unhealthy. To bring them back to good health the Buddha taught meditation practices that are a way of being kind and compassionate toward ourselves and develop the skill and strength needed to create kind and compassionate spaces for others.
