“Interconnected” – Talk 10

This week’s talk, given by Meditation Instructor Jim Dunn, is entitled, “The Value of Community,” and is the 10th in our series of talks based on the book Interconnected: Embracing Life in Our Global Society, by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa.

What is community? When we think of community, we think of our town, our neighborhood, our family. Communities provide us with support and a sense of belonging. But that sense of belonging can all too easily transform into a tendency to exclude those we feel are different from ourselves. His Holiness asks us to examine our definition of community, and expand it to include not only those we feel a kinship with, but all of humankind, and, indeed, all living beings.
