Our mind is central to our experience of life and death, so it makes sense to nurture our minds to experience more wakefulness and love.
We will spend the morning examining, reflecting on and discussing “What to do at the time of death” teachings from Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche’s “Great Path of Awakening.” We also will briefly review teachings on the Bardo, or “in-between” state, which our minds experience after death.
In the afternoon, we will talk about practical preparations for death, ranging from how to talk to our loved ones about death, how to make plans for Buddhist prayers and practices during illness and death, and helpful advice from Chaplain Cathy Lhamo Jackson.
Whether one dies tomorrow or 70 years from now, reflection on one’s own death will lead deeper into our own practice and give us a fresh look at the aims of that practice.
Learning how to die can lead to learning how to live a more meaningful life. The aim of this workshop is to lead the student in some personal reflection on how they wish to live and die.
