Mahakala Reading Transmission

Offering practices help us to cultivate awakened mind and engage the obstacles to our spiritual life in a constructive way. Protector chants, such as the Offerings to Mahakala, are recited in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries daily to help dharma students remember the importance of maintaining pure ethical conduct and compassion and subduing their mental afflictions. At KTC Columbus, the Offerings to Mahakala puja is recited once a month – on the Third Sunday of the Month – to offer blessing and protection to our sangha and dharma students. The purpose of this 60-minute session is for Lama Kathy to give dharma students the reading transmission for the Offering to Mahakala practice recited monthly at KTC. The reading transmission – in which the entire prayer text is read aloud by a lama to give dharma students the “permission blessing” to recite the text in the monthly puja – is required for those who wish to obtain a text and chant with the group. It is open to those who have taken the Buddhist Vow of Refuge, and have an interest in helping chant this monthly offering.
