Nyungne Retreat

November 22, 2019 - November 25, 2019

The Nyungne Retreat is designed to purify negative karma and accumulate merit and wisdom. It is a two-day practice focusing on the generation of the Bodhisattva attitude, the strict keeping of vows, and the recitation of the 1000-arm Chenrezig sadhana. Chenrezig is the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and his practice aids our development of loving-kindness and compassion. It is said that to accomplish the Nyungne, even once, can sever the currents leading to rebirth in the lower realms of existence.

The Dalai Lama has said, “Nyungne is an excellent Buddhist practice because it is simple to do and easy to undertake and yet, at the same time, can be of great spiritual benefit.”

Beginners and seasoned practitioners are encouraged to attend this profound practice. The reading transmission and orientation will be given Friday evening. For those who want to “get their feet wet” or not able to complete a full week-end schedule, a one-day practice on Saturday is strongly encouraged.

Lama Tsultrim Yeshe (John Samuelson) has been a student of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche since 1989. He completed the first three-year retreat at Karme Ling Under the direction of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche earning the title “Retreat Lama.” He took novice monk vows in 1994 from Tai Situ Rinpoche and fully ordained monastic vows in 2008 from Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.
Lama Yeshe is the resident Lama at the Hay River Karma Thegsum Choling located in Western Wisconsin. He travels throughout the country to other Buddhist centers to teach and lead retreats, as well as holistic learning centers like the Omega Institute.
This fall’s retreat will be held at the Martin de Porres Center. Meals will be offered but there are no sleeping rooms.

The Nyungne Retreat is restricted to practitioners who have taken refuge and received the reading transmission for the Nyungne prayer text. The reading transmission will be given on Friday, November 22nd if you have not received it.
