Saturday Shamatha Retreat

| Practicing Mindfulness Meditation is an eye-opener for many of us; after learning how to practice basic quiet sitting meditation (called Shamatha in Sanskrit), we discover our unseen thoughts and motivations and feel inspired to make changes in our lives.This one-day retreat will give us a chance to focus on Dharma practice and deepen our connection to the basic sanity and goodness of sitting meditation.
KTC Senior Meditation Instructor Eric Weinberg will lead meditation sessions, and Lama Tom Broadwater will be available for meditation instruction interviews, to help participants make a strong connection with their practice.
The program will be offered both in-person at the KTC and via Zoom to our at-home Zoom audience and distance sangha.
Those attending in person should bring a sack lunch. Water, coffee and tea will be provided.
To promote a mindful atmosphere, Functional Talking (for necessary things) will be observed.
ABOUT LAMA TOM
Lama Tom Broadwater became a student of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche in1999. He completed a 3 year retreat in 2012. He currently serves as an Associate Lama at Columbus Karma Thegsum Chöling Buddhist Meditation Center in Columbus OH. Coal miner 4 years. Social worker and social administrator 35 years. Married 45 years. Father of two daughters and 3 grandchildren.
ABOUT ERIC WEINBERG
Eric is a senior meditation instructor at Columbus Karma Thegsum Choling. He received his first formal training in meditation in 1974 at the Sri Rudrananda Ashram in Cincinnati Ohio. Since then he has maintained a daily practice and has received further training in the Catholic contemplative tradition, the Jewish tradition and the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He has served KTC as a meditation instructor, board member and head of the prison project. A Registered Investment Advisor, Eric and his wife Jeanne have two adult sons. |
