Training the Mind in Love: An Autumn Book Club with Lama Kathy

October 21, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This event meets every Wednesday: Oct 21, Oct 28, Nov 4, Nov 11, Nov 18

When we first hear about the path of the bodhisattva – the being who lives their life in service to others – we might be inspired, but we might also wonder how we could *ever* have that much love, kindness, compassion, and commitment.

The teachings of Buddhism say that while we cannot have this sort of love and compassion at the beginning of our spiritual path, we can gradually develop them through the practice of meditation and by training in the actions of great bodhisattvas of the past.

In the 13th Century, the Tibetan master Ngulchu Thogme wrote a set of verses entitled “The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva,” which has became a guidebook for generations of “awakened warriors” committed to reversing their own ego-fixation and taking hold of the benefit of others.

Starting October 21st, we will spend each Wednesday for five weeks studying “The 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva,” with an emphasis on practical applications in our own lives. The book can be downloaded for free here

We’ll also start a group initiative to recite the 37 Practices 1000 times for the cause of peace and harmony in our nation and the world.

You can attend all of the sessions, or just a few; we will try to record all the sessions for later watching on YouTube.

Attendance will be by donation, and proceeds from the Autumn Book Club will be put toward Columbus KTC Rebuilding Fund. We hope to rebuild our center (destroyed by arson fire in 2016) this summer, and all proceeds over cost will be put toward rebuilding our temple. You can give $1 per session, $5, $10 – or any amount you choose.
