This event meets Saturdays October 24th, October 31st, and November 7th
The deaths of Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many other innocent black citizens recently inspired Black Lives Matter movement marches around the country to address systemic racism and injustice.
In response to these issues, a Columbus KTC sangha member approached the Columbus KTC Board and asked, “How can our Sangha respond to these injustices beyond meditation and prayer?” This sincere and heartfelt question led us to organize a program to explore how, as a Buddhist community, we might address social justice issues – both on and off the cushion.
Beginning on Saturday October 24th, Columbus KTC will offer a three-part virtual program on Saturday mornings to examine and discuss these issues. All Columbus KTC members and friends – even those located beyond central Ohio – are invited to participate.
Each workshop will include presentations, activities and small group discussions.
- Saturday, October 24th at 10:30 AM ET: During this session, we’ll focus on Buddhist teachings related to social justice and explore unconscious bias and inclusivity. To participate in this workshop, please register no later than 5 PM Eastern Time, Wednesday, October 21st.
- Saturday, October 31st at 10:30 AM ET: In this session, we’ll identify how to put intentions related to social justice into action. To participate in this workshop. please register no later than 5 PM Eastern Time, Wednesday, October 28th.
- Saturday, November 7th at 10:30 ET: Based on large and small group discussions conducted during the first two sessions, we’ll identify next steps we might take as a community. To participate in this workshop, please register no later than 5 PM Eastern Time, November 4th.
Registration for each Saturday workshop is required so that we can organize virtual breakout rooms for small group discussions with room facilitators. Please register for each workshop separately, using the button below.
