The unequalled Buddhist yogi Milarepa attained complete enlightenment in one lifetime through superior diligence and perseverance in meditation practice.
The force that propelled his unrelenting diligence was his utter renunciation of samsara. In many of his songs, Milarepa gave encouragement to his students by pointing out the meaninglessness of samsaric pursuits.
Milarepa’s spontaneously composed spiritual rhymes have inspired generations of spiritual seekers to see through the false promises of worldly life and accomplish love and wisdom in their own minds.
Lama Lodro Lhamo will introduce some of these songs and sing them with participants in the class.
By singing Milarepa’s songs, we can feel a kinship with his devotion and aspire to our own path of meditation and diligence.
