This 2 1/2 hour event will introduce the Chenrezig Practice as it’s recited at Columbus KTC on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
Chenrezig is the awakened bodhisattva of compassion, associated with the renowned mantra OM MANI PEME HUNG. Chenrezig practice can increase our own love and compassion and help us uncover and relate to our own innate, awakened Buddha Nature.
Lama Kathy Wesley will begin the workshop with the historical background of the practice and will then teach simple visualizations to use while reciting it.
And Senior Meditation Instructor Cathy Lhamo Jackson will share her personal experience with the practice and show us how to read Tibetan transliteration and how to chant.
The program will conclude with a group chant of the Chenrezig practice in observance of the Saka Dawa Duchen holiday – the Great Occasion (“Duchen”) of the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. It is said that doing dharma practice at these times is especially meritorious and effective.
All are welcome. Participants will finish the workshop knowing how to read a Tibetan prayer text, and be prepared to participate in the Chenrezig practice at KTC.
There are four handouts for this workshop:
- The Chenrezig/Amitabha Practice
- The Tashi Prayer (usually recited before the Chenrezig practice at KTC)
- The Lama Rinpochema Prayer (usually recited in place of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoché’s longevity supplication)
- Study notes for this session
