This ninety minute workshop will cover the why and how of mindfulness, both in our meditation practice and throughout our daily lives. It will include instruction and short practice sessions, and is therefore appropriate for everyone, including beginners.
Shamata, or “calm abiding” meditation, is the foundational method the Buddha taught for cultivating mindfulness, and mindfulness has a tremendously positive impact on everything we experience.
We will begin with an exploration of why shamata is a vital practice for us. As we come to understand this for ourselves, we will find a natural motivation for our daily practice.
Next, there will be a brief instruction in shamatha meditation.
Finally, we will cover the benefits of steady mindfulness, with an emphasis on how it can impact not only our own motivations, but also how we view others and the world around us.
