The Mahamudra Lineage Prayer: A Guide to Practice, Talk 3

This week’s talk, given by Senior Meditation Instructor Cathy Lhamo Jackson, is entitled, “The Mahamudra Lineage Prayer: A Guide to Practice, Talk 3.”

All beginning students in our lineage are taught Shamatha meditation – also known as Shinay or “calm abiding” meditation. In this chapter, we examine Shamatha as it is taught in Mahamudra practice and learn how it differs from ordinary Shamatha. Cathy Lhamo gives a detailed review of basic Shamatha meditation techniques (which are common to both types) while emphasizing the value of practicing ordinary Shamatha, for our well-being in general, as well as in preparation for eventually beginning the path of Mahamudra.
