Why We Need Virtue: The Seven-Branch Offering Prayer

This week’s Dharma Talk is entitled Why We Need Virtue: The Seven-Branch Offering Prayer by Lama Kathy Wesley.

Since the time of the Buddha Shakyamuni, followers of the Dharma have approached the idea of enlightenment prayerfully – making aspirations that we, too, can become enlightened beings. One of the oldest prayers in Buddhism is the Seven-Branch Prayer, which strengthens our inner river of virtue and helps us give rise to wisdom. This talk explains how virtue in our thoughts, words, and actions leads to wisdom in our minds. Based on a chapter in “Words of My Perfect Teacher” by Patrul Rinpoche.
